Priority Shift

Don’t you hate ultimatums?

I found myself over the last few months resisting the fact that it was time to make some serious life style changes.  And the more I kept putting this off, the worse my situation became.  But honestly, one reason I was hesitant to start making changes was I did not know where to start!  All I really knew was it was time to make a major adjustment, otherwise I was going to have no other choice but to let go of the very things I love most.

After talking with my life coach, it was time for a shift in my priorities.  My quiet time with God had fallen into just another “To-Do List” item.  If I could cram in a quick devotion and read a bible verse then I could check off that I had my time with God for the day. Quiet time with God looks different for every individual.  For me it means reading the bible, journaling, praying and sometimes reading a devotional.  When I spend adequate time with Jesus, inevitably my day is much more focused and at peace.

I invite you today to ask yourself these questions:

What are my priorities?

What does my quiet time look like?

Is it time for a priority shift in my life?

  1. Praying for all my readers today! Thank you for spending time on my blog today 🙂

  2. Linda,

Thank you for being so open and honest. God is speaking through you right on time! It is time for my life to have a priority shift too! It is time to not rush through my devotional reading but to take time to sit and soak in it, dig deeper in God’s word to see what He wants me to learn each day. Spend time in prayer thanking Him for my many blessings and pouring my heart out to Him (He already knows what is there anyway so no need to “hide” it from Him! and listening for His voice. Time to BE STILL and know that He is God.

  3. Thanks Linda! I have been trying to make “quiet time” a priority this year, but I admit I still struggle with this. Thanks for your encouraging words! Lynette

  4. Thank you so much for sharing. I want to make my quiet time a habit, a habit like the first thing I do is make a cut of tea in the morning. I know my life is smoother when I have that quiet time thank you for encouraging me through this. I feel like you wrote this for me so thank you!!!

    • Hi Nancy! It’s just like Joyce Meyer says, we must make the “God Habit” in our life. Thank you for commenting today! Blessings~

  5. I have been really making sure I at least get my quiet time in first thing in the morning, even for a few minutes. I try to do additional time at night, but that doesn’t always work out. Life just seems so much easier with having that quiet time!!

  6. Linda, once again, I absolutely LOVE how real you are with your readers. I know what you mean about needing to make adjustments and reevaluate my own priorities. To often my own quiet time has gotten to be something I just check off. However, when I spend the time with God, my day goes so much better and I have that peace that only He can provide.
It is an honor to serve with you on OBS. You are such a blessing!

  7. Making time for God. Why is this so difficult? He has given us so much; His son, Jesus who came to save us. I am working on the morning committment. Getting up a little earlier and reading some devotionals. And in the evening, I have spent lots of time reading, journaling, re-reading. But I feel that those 12 hours in the middle of the day are where I need Him most but am not making the time. I feel that those 12 hours are what is keeping me from that closeness I so desire. I listen to some Christian music and podcasts in the car, I have a few faith inspired items at my desk and photos of some wounded soldiers we help, just to keep me from complaining about things like the weather or the long walk from the car to my office. I have verses written on cards at my desk and I pick one each day once I arrive. I place it were I can see it throughout the day. But something is still missing. In the evening, I feel as though I have been distant from Him all day. I’m still a work in progress. Something is just around the corner that will inspire me give me that closeness breakthrough I am seeking.

  8. Hi Linda, I try to make it a priority to spend my morning with God. I read the P31 devotional, Jesus calling by Sarah Young, and receive emails when the P31 ladies post to their blogs. I like to read the verses that are in the devotionals and blogs in my bible; and pray that God will give me my instructions for the day and ask how can I be a blessing to someone. If I do not start my day with God, it seems as if nothing goes right. I have a not so Christian attitude and a harsh word to two. Once I made time with God a priority than a to do item, my spirit and life change! I started craving His word and missed it when I didn’t read or spend time with God.

  9. Yes my priority is to have a quiet time in the morning but sometimes it gets to be just routine instead of inspiring. When that happens I try to mix up things a little, like read a different devotional or start my time differently by changing the order of my reading. Those simple little things can liven up my time with the Lord.
