What’s Respect Got To Do With Healthy Eating?

In my blog post 7 Simple Truths to Accountability {that will hit you in the gut} Simple Truth 3 states: Accountability shows respect towards others, and you are honoring yourself with self-respect when exercising accountability.

Why is it so important to respect yourself?

Over the years I’ve learned that you cannot give away what you do not have. So the more you respect yourself, the more respect you can give away to others.

One of my core values is to respect God first. Romans 12:1 tells us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. This is your spiritual act of worship.

So how do we offer ourselves as living sacrifices? One way I’ve learned how to do that is by eating healthy, exercising and taking care of myself. This is honoring to God. I don’t claim to do it perfectly. Many times I mess it all up. But then there are days when I seem to get it right.

My prayer today is that each one of us would have a deep longing desire to respect God first with our lives. Leave a comment and share how you will honor God with your life today?

  1. You said it when you said to respect yourself. If you can learn to love and respect yourself your respecting and honoring God.

  2. This made me think. It gave me a new perspective. Reacting to my circumstances with unhealthy choices is not honoring God. I need to put God first…go to Him for comfort and honor Him with healthy choices physically and mentally.

    • Perspective changes everything. When I get off track in life I often ask myself, “Am I looking at this from my perspective or a heavenly perspective?” That usually helps me get refocused. 🙂

  3. I love this reminder. Being respectful to ourselves does allow us to be respectful to others and especially to God. Thanks Linda! Hugs!

  4. What a great reminder to honor God in my choices for healthy eating and exercise. I have been struggling lately with sticking to my healthy living plan and commit today to get back on track
