Bad Habits to New Habits

I’m inviting you to pray this today: “Search the inner depths of my heart and expose anything that is not of You so I can be set free of it.” Excerpt from Stormie Omartian’s book The Power of Prayer to Change Your Marriage.

What do you need to be set free from?

In my quiet time I was reading Psalm 5:11-12 and part of it reads “Let those who love Your name be joyful and exult in You.” All of a sudden my eyes were opened to a “bad” habit I have. I have a habit of not being joyful, instead I have a habit of anxious thoughts and worrying.

I’ve decided I want to create a new habit of gratitude, thankful and joy filled thoughts to replace my bad habit of anxious and worried thoughts.

Let me know what “bad” habit you have and what new habit you can replace it with?

*I will be announcing giveaway WINNER next Tuesday, be sure to leave a comment to be entered to win The Mended Heart by Suzanne Eller.

                                         ~Praise for Worthy of a Miracle~

Linda Kuhar extends an invitation to find an extraordinary God at work in the middle of our ordinary lives. She offers faith, encouragement and, most of all, hope. Whether you’re going through a difficult time or are simply looking for inspiration and a new perspective, Worthy of a Miracle will meet you where you are and help you see what could be. – Holley Gerth, Wall Street Journal Bestselling Author of You’re Already Amazing

I knew Linda’s story would be inspiring, but had no idea how much her book would touch my heart as a woman, a wife, a parent and a believer. Seeing how God orchestrated small and life changing miracles in her life literally moved me to tears as I witnessed the tangible proof of the power of God at work. Her story is a beautiful reminder of God’s sovereignty, packed with scriptural promises and practical steps for growing our relationship with God, while reminding us all that we are worthy of His miracles too. – Tracie Miles, Christian Speaker & Writer, and Author of two best-selling books, Your Life Still Counts: How God Turns Your Past Into A Beautiful Future and Stressed-Less Living: Finding God’s Peace In Your Chaotic World.

I’m not alone in this…

What words of encouragement do you need to hear when you’re having a bad day?

What I would like to hear is, it’s ok to eat that candy bar or pizza, but really that’s not going to help me.

The words I really need to hear are words of compassion, not only from someone else, but from myself. Words like, you’re not alone in this, everyone struggles, or would you consider offering yourself some compassion in this moment?

This month I’m focusing on self-compassion on my blog. After asking my friends on Facebook on a scale from 1 – 10 how hard are you on yourself? 10 being extremely hard, the response I received was incredible. Everyone is so hard on themselves. Friends, we are not alone in this.

I invite you on my blog and to follow me on social media at #mycompassioncoach as we learn and practice self-compassion together. Will you join me?

It’s an honor to have my friend Holley Gerth post today! Holley is the best-selling author of You’re Already Amazing and several other books. She’s also the cofounder of www.incourage.me and loves hanging out with women at www.holleygerth.com too. Holley has been married to Mark for thirteen years, lives in the South, and says “y’all” a whole lot. She’d love to have coffee with you.

You Can Still Finish Strong this Year

Long before daylight my alarm blares, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough…” The words of the song strike me as ironic because right now ANY mountain feels too high except the pile of blankets on top of me. I’ve committed to do a 50-mile bike race with my husband. What could I possibly have been thinking?

He’s already up and jumping around the room like a kid on Christmas morning. He flips on the light and begins to gather my gear. He tosses me spandex shorts to replace my comfy pajamas. Again, “WHAT am I thinking?”

All the way to the starting line I imagine everything that could go wrong. I could have a wreck. Get dehydrated. Run into a cow–and I really like cows. So sad. It’s too early for my thoughts to be entirely rational. All I really know is that I feel FEAR. Spine tingling, mind-spinning, I-think-I-will-throw-up-now fear.

I’m doing the race with my fabulous friend named Trish (my awesome husband has signed up for 100 miles–even longer than what I’m doing). Before we begin I make Trish promise to take care of me while I cling to my handlebars like a toddler with a security blanket.

Then we’re off. And something really remarkable happens.

I don’t die.

Instead I pedal.

One mile at a time.

Until we get to the first stop on the route. They have cookies. And suddenly I realize I just might be okay.

So I pedal again.

Then some more.

And before I know it, I’m on the other side of the finish line holding my free hot dog high in victory. {Yes, free food motivates me. I’m kind of like a circus bear that way.}

Later on as I reflect, I realize I should have seen this ending coming. Because over and over I’ve discovered this: Fear is almost always the hardest part. Yep, even the pedaling is easier than the fear.

And pedaling is also the only way to get through the fear. You can’t make it go away ahead of time. There’s only one permanent cure for fear: the finish line.

You have to cross the finish line of your dream, that challenge, the thing you didn’t think you could ever-ever-ever-do.

Let me lean in and whisper to you as we look at the last few months of this year: you can still finish strong.

Just pedal.

Then pedal some more.

Find a free cookie somewhere.

Never give up.

You have a big God who lives within you.

And there ain’t no mountain high enough to keep him from getting us through.

XOXO

Holley Gerth

I Said Yes!

coffeedate

As I was driving to my favorite office space (Starbucks) I started thinking about how cool it is that we can share our lives with people literally around the world all because of technology. I love that we no longer have to work in “the office” but can literally work from anywhere that has Wi-Fi?

Heck, I do my coaching sessions and even have coffee dates over Skype. Speaking of Skype, I have a coffee date scheduled with a new friend of mine, Holley Gerth in a few days.

Holley will be stopping by my blog on September 26 and we will be giving away some cool stuff that day so make sure to visit!

I’m so excited to introduce you to her! She is someone you will fall in love with if you don’t already know her. She is a best-selling author of Your’re Already Amazing as well as several other books and has her own line of awesome things at DaySpring.

When she spoke at the She Speaks conference I attended in July, she created such an intimacy with the audience. I felt as if I was the only person in the room she was talking with.

Holley asked us about our God-Sized Dreams. She helped us see past ourselves and into the vision God has for our lives.

I want to encourage you today that YOU too have a God-Sized Dream deep in your heart.

During my Yes to God bible study, I had huge breakthrough! I said Yes to God by embracing the authentic me, by letting go of perfection and comparison, which has freed me to completely pursue my God-Sized Dream!

Will you join me in a little coffee date today? Pour yourself a cup of coffee or your favorite drink, grab your journal and write out everything you’ve ever dreamed of doing. Think back to when you were a little girl. What dreams did you share with your best friend?

I want to hear all about you today! What did you discover during our coffee date? Leave a comment below.
