Week 1 – Setting Your Goal

Guess what my goal is?

I am training for the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon on November 8, two days before my book release!

This will be my third half marathon. My first two events I ran with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training and they were amazing experiences! But I must confess, after the second event I said I would NEVER EVER run a half marathon again because I did not have the same experience as the first event. I had slacked off in my training and as a result I was pretty miserable running 13.1 miles the second time around.

It’s very import that we get focused and serious about our goals here. If you are here on my blog, I really want you to make a commitment for the next 12 weeks. I don’t want you to commit half way, but fully commit. Let’s do this together!

In the comments below I want you to write out your SMART Goal. For example here’s mine!

Specific: Run 13.1 miles

Measurable: Nov. 8, 2015 (2 days before Worthy of a Miracle book release!!!)

Attainable: Planned wisely (Meeting with a running coach and allowed adequate time to train.)

Realistic: Yes, I am willing and able.

Timely: 12 week time frame

SMART-Goals

Everyone who comments will be entered to WIN What Happens When Women Say Yes To God devotional by Lysa TerKeurst. Winner announced next Tuesday! I’m so excited to have you running alongside me the next 12 weeks as we accomplish our goals together.

YOU ROCK!!!

Love that you are here with us!!

      • I am not really working out on a schedule. And I try to ride my stationary bike but have failed at doing so.

  15. Ok here goes … I feel the Lord is leading me in the direction of becoming a Christian Life Coach but the financial aspect scares me soooo my smart goal is to start a savings account to reach my first payment of
    500.00 in 12 weeks
    Specific —save 500.00
Measurable – average saving a 42.00 a week with end goal of 500.00 by Nov 10th

    Timely — 12 weeks Nov 10th

And my big goal is to be able to start Christian Coach Institute in Jan 2016

    • Yay Kelly!!!!! This is so exciting!!! You can do this! I love how detailed your goal is. You are going to be a great coach! The world needs you!!! $42 a week… you’ve got this. How many times do you eat out now? Are there specific days you can select and plan not to eat out?

      • I eat out lunch 4 days a week and 2 times on the weekend for a total of 6 times a week I plan to cut down to only eating lunch out 1 time a week and cut weekend down to 1 time for the weekend ….. By the way excited to read your book and congrats on the half marathons and I know you will Rock lol the next one I have done 3 half marathons myself run/walk myrtle beach mini twice and Disney half which was awesome ome thing that really helped me was when I would start struggling and felt I couldn’t make the next mile I would start praying for the person in front of me or the person behind me beside. Me etc.. it made the hard times easier because it took my focus off of me and put it on Jesus and the other person .. Excited about this journey for me and you!

        • Kelly what great advice to get me across the finish line! I do pray a lot on my runs. It has become a time of deep spiritual connection and awareness. My runs are very special to me…however I’ve not ran over 4 miles in a very long time so I know it going to get challenging in the weeks ahead. Your plan to cut eating out 2x a week will get you across the finish line for your goal quickly! Thanks for being here.

          • Thanks I think going from eating out 6 times a week to only 2 times a week should also help with my weight loss goal too 🙂 … Praying He guides your heart as well as your feet successfully across the finish line !!!

  16. I have some personal, professional, and ministry goals , but my weight is a hindrance to accomplishing any of my other goals. I lack the confidence to move forward professionally & in ministry, because of my size. So for this reason, I decided I would use this 12 weeks to kick-start my effort of getting physically healthy.

    Specific = Lose 15 lbs
    Measurable = November 8, 2015
Attainable= I will plan my meals and prep as much in advance as possible so that when meal time comes, food is already there. I will not eat in my vehicle. Drink at least 64 oz water, daily. Exercise at least 5 days, per week. I will not allow myself to make excuse, but I will also give myself grace when I’m not perfect. Seek God for the power to stay the course. Read the “Lose it for Life” book and do the accompanying workbook.
Realistic = I everything it takes to be successful, when I put in the effort, and I will.
    Timely = 12 weeks

    • Wow Kerry you have set yourself up for success my friend. Your plan sounds great! You can do this!!!!! Imagine how amazing you will feel in 12 weeks. I’m so glad you’re here with us!

    A- Two Chapters
R- Yes, because this goal won’t overwhelm with fear
    T- 12weeks
    Here we go!!!

    • Love your goal Tammy! You can write 2 chapters in 12 weeks. You’ve got this!

What days & times will you be writing? I shared earlier that I did better writing in short windows of time instead of long periods.

  20. S – lose 5 kgs
    M – 10 Nov
A – Eat healthy, exercise 3x a week, run with my training buddy.
R – Yes, I can do this, I have done it before.
    T – 12 weeks

    • Love your goal Heidi! Which days and at what time will you be working out? It’s great that you have a training buddy. That’s a HUGE help for follow through.

  21. I am struggling with a goal.

I have recently lost 60lbs so weight is not it.
I currently attend and teach Bible Study.

and to think my goal would be to clean my house better or more often just makes me sad.
so all that being said – my goal over the next weeks to to find a goal.

    • Janet sometimes we need a time for self-awareness and reflection on where we are in our life. It sounds like that is where you might be. However, to declutter & clean certain areas of my house is always a great goal for me…lol. For some reason my car and my closet and my purse stay messy and it causes me unneeded stress. You’ve got me thinking here. 😉

  22. At first I wanted to set a goal for my business. But after thinking and praying about it, I realized that I need to get my mind and body in order *before* I set goals for my business. So, I am on a journey to lose at least 25 pounds. I will join the YWCA and start weight training. I will also walk and ride my bike. (I don’t see myself as the running type at the moment.) Of course, I also need to follow a healthy eating plan. I lost weight several years ago with the South Beach Diet. This time I will follow the Daniel Plan. Yes! I can do it!

    • Susan it sounds like you’ve got great clarity around your priorities. That’s very exciting. I know when I’m taking care of myself spiritually, mentally and physically I am much more successful in my business goals as well.

If you feel led you could take a before and after picture. Take a photo today and then plan to take a photo in 11 weeks. Just imagine how great you will be feeling heading into the holidays 🙂

      • Great idea about taking photos of myself. Years ago when I did strength training I also took measurements of body parts – shoulder, waist, hips, thighs, calves, and even my neck. It was amazing to see a one-inch decrease in my neck size! I should do that again.

  23. My overall goal is to learn to take better care of myself & to find my voice/self- I’ll work on my larger goal with mini goals in these areas over the next 12 weeks [until Nov.16] :
Sleep- re-establish reg. bed/wake times min. 7hrs sleep; bed by 9pm
Exercise: Dance/walk: 5x week- min. 30 m; Fitbit step goal: min. 10,000; NEAT activity built into day. Begin 1 day of strength training per week & work towards a second day.
Hydration: min. 80 ounces- will track on MFP. Limit green tea to 2 cups daily
Eat: Log food on My Fitness Pal & stay within goal for desired weight loss of 15#; mindful eating -smaller portions & healthier food choices.
Stress management: Re-establish consistent morning quiet time-journaling/study/worship & prayer. Thought management: affirmations & repeat thru day; pray, trust, rest [I find my thoughts determine my day- truth = progress & peace; lies = discouragement & failure -very stressful :P]. Keep evenings free for relationship time with spouse, kids, grandkids, friends or me recharge time. Mini breaks thru the day to savor & be fully present. Faithfulness to my already well thought out & planned schedule -no chasing urgent squirrels! I think these are specific, measurable, reasonable & definitely attainable as I am a lady who loves goals & accountability -the two are a magic combination in my world 🙂 I plan to update my health goals checklist with these goals & to track my progress for each day during the next day’s quiet time.
Thank you again, Linda, for this 12 week opportunity to make changes with you cheering us on & giving us guidance. I genuinely appreciate your gift to us & the companionship on the journey <3

    • Liz this sounds AMAZING!!! You have great awareness and excellent details on how to accomplish your goals. I love that you are here with us taking this journey. Thank you for love & encouragement! You gave me a virtual ((hug)).

  24. Linda, you are a true inspiration! I just ran my first 10K last weekend, debating on a half, but not feeling driven. What made you decide to run a half the first time?

My goal is to have my blog up and loaded with at least 10 posts by my birthday, Nov. 7. One post a week until then and another 20 blog ideas in the hopper to keep moving forward.
Thank you for sharing your journey!
    <3

    • Kris it was on my “bucket list” especially after my mother-in-law passed away from cancer. I wanted to do it in memory of her and to support LLS. Once I finished radiation treatment I signed up and started training!

Please share your blog here with us! Congrats on getting it set up. Love that you are here with us 🙂
