Preparing with FREE Shoes

{I have 2 videos today! Be sure to watch 2nd video below}

My heart is racing in anticipation for the journey that we are taking together over the next 12 weeks of free coaching. Please know that I am praying for you, your goals and dreams and that together we will rock this!

I’m so thrilled to have you joining me on this journey and to have your love and support as well. I’m so proud of you for making that commitment to dedicate the next 12 weeks to accomplishing your goals.

One point I want to make that is extremely important in achieving your goal is NOT the actual goal itself, but the preparation. What do you need to do to prepare yourself for your goal today? What do you need to do after you work on your goal? These are 2 necessary questions to answer because that is what will get you across the finish line successfully.

To achieve our goals it takes effort, planning and doing the hard work. What are the things you might not love to do, but you must do in order to accomplish your goal?

Here’s a video of me PREPARING for the race. Thank you Turkey Dash for my free shoes and Try Sports for such excellent services always! If you live in the Charlotte area I hope you’ll sign up here to run with me on Thanksgiving day at the Turkey Dash! I love my Mizuno running shoes!!!!!

Let me know in the comments how you are preparing for your goal? What are the things you might not love to do, but you will do them anyway so that you accomplish your goal? Everyone who comments will be entered to WIN a devotional by Lysa TerKeurst What Happens When Women Say Yes To God. Winner will be announced August 29.

  1. I really dislike going to the gym! In order to meet my goals, I need the strength training equipment that I must go to the gym for. I already have a YMCA membership, and a very nice YMCA, I might add, and it’s less than 5 minutes away, but I really dislike going. Bottom line, – I need to change my thinking from dwelling on how much I dislike doing, and dreading it, to I am blessed to be able to afford a nice gym, and that I GET to work out! We also have an incredible trail system here in Memphis, where I CAN get in some cardio! I also dislike prepping food. It’s much easier to throw some egg rolls in the toaster oven, or stop by a fast food joint – no prep and no dishes. I am blessed because I do know how to eat clean and just need to make the effort to do it!
Congrats on the knew kicks, Linda! I’ll be praying for you today when I’m working out at the Y or getting some cardio our on the Greenline!

    • Kerry I agree with you on the strength training! Yikes 😉 But it’s all about our mindset. I’m going to join you in changing my mindset and remain grateful for the ability to exercise!!

  2. Congrats on the free shoes Linda, What a blessing. These questions really got me to think. I need to really focus on meal planning, and making sure that I have healthy food in my home. So my goal is to make a plan for the week and go shopping and plan out each of my days on what I am going to eat. After work I want to work on getting my bag ready for the gym , putting my clothes and shoes in it and placing it in my car. I also want to plan on making my lunch to bring to work at night when I get home. Have a blessed day everyone!

    • Mary you sound like you are on the right track with planning ahead! When I prepare to exercise, eat healthy, or whatever 95% of the time I follow through. Let’s keep planning!

  3. I am surprised by what is the hardest part for my goal, asking for accountability. I am so grateful for our community here but God placed it on my heart to ask a friend if she would be willing to be my writing accountability person so I laid out my writing goals for her yesterday and she accepted. I know she will be awesome at it but that both terrifies and excites me! I know that God has also called me to more than just morning and evening time with Him as I begin this writing process I must fill all of my free time (I have a life style that allows this) immersed in His word: study, prayer, worship so I am equipped. I love spending time with God but my flesh often screams for me to lay on the couch and “rest” but I am determined to cling to Jesus as my hope and strength!

Linda, I love your shoes and am so excited that God blessed you in that way! I love when He makes sure we know He is for us even in the small things!

    • Melissa I’m so excited to hear that you’ve reached out to an accountability partner. When I have a coach or a community that I’m accountable to I WILL FOLLOW THROUGH. We each know what we need in order to succeed and I’m so happy you’ve taken the steps. You go girl!!!!!

  4. Nice to have this accountability to not lose track of the new goal!! Finding the time to commit to networking and spreading the word about something new is hard for me though good to work on these days. God bless you all!

  5. Hello, Linda. Two things I need to do to accomplish my goal of losing weight for better health are 1. meet with the nutritionist 2. walk more. Yesterday, I did meet with the nutritionist in my doctor’s office and I learned how to make better food choices. My husband and I went to the store last evening and made healthier food selections. Also, I need to walk more. Some days are easier than others due to my dizziness/vertigo spells. Today, I have walked up and down our stairs and walked more inside the house. Weather permitting, my husband and I will walk the neighborhood this evening. I am so excited to be on this journey and to have your encouragement and support.
I am so proud of you. How exciting to get new shoes! Awesome!! Love you bunches!

    • I’m so happy to hear that you’ve already met with the nutritionist and have went grocery shopping AND exercising. This is exciting!!! Imagine how amazing you will be feeling by November 8!

      Love you Melissa!

  6. I had a pair of mizzunos that fit my feet perfectly, back when they were still making them for narrow feet! I am memorizing scripture trying to position myself for God to renew my mind by His word & His Holy Spirit to believe that He lavishly lives me. Not just in my head but really & truly in my heart 🙂

    • What a bummer they don’t make Mizzunos for narrow feet anymore. How many scriptures are planning to memorize each week? Learning God’s word is a goal that will continue to bless your life and those around you! Love it!!!!

  7. I will prepare by learning new equipment, which I dislike very much. And, I will schedule time to work on my goal each and every week.
Thank you and congratulations on your new book launch in November!

    Jennifer

    • Jennifer it’s great to hear you are pushing through the thing you dislike 🙂 We will get across the finish line together here.

I’m so excited about the book release. It’s been a very long process but perseverance is paying off 😉

  8. Organization, organization, organization!!!! I’m a teacher w multiple grades and want to be the best! Not a bad goal but I feel like a failure when I look at my desk and scramble for the right piece of paper and my kids start talking cuz I’ve turned my back. (Ok debbie breathe)
Oh , and discipline to not get sidetracked by everyone else’s poor planning and interruptions.

    • Debbie, what does organization look like for you? Can you envision a clean desk? How does that feel physically when you think about everything being organized?

You are an amazing women and I love your passion and desire to be an excellent teacher!!

How will I address my issue? Take time to do a more complete schedule, lock my door and take time to clear my desk and put thingswhere they go not in a file pile.

    • Debbie I love your passion to want to be the best teacher for your students. You could never be a failure with the heart you have!! Sounds like you have a great plan to keep you focused. xoxo

  10. One thing I absolutely hate is having a plan I am normally a fly by the seat of your pants kinda girl so it will definitely be hard for me to plan which days I will eat out and which days I will pack my lunch and I will need to plan ahead on what I want to take for lunch so I can get what I need from the grocery store . I also want to get an envelope to put the money In that I normally would spend on eating out and put it in there so I can actually see the progress and not just have it in the bank and if I feel the need or want to eat out then I have to take it from the envelope I think this will make me more accountable for spending the money . I am grateful for this challenge because I want to be willing to discipline my self with how I am spending my money so that I can use it to help me follow the path I feel God has for me it’s so easy to just swipe the debit card and not think about it but If I have the cash I can see the progress ! Thank you again for doing this !

    • Kelly I can relate to not wanting to follow a plan. I like to just “wing it”. However, when I have a set goal (run 13.1 miles) I have to follow a plan but I do allow room in my schedule to wing it. For example days when I need to cross train I leave it open and see what I feel like doing that day instead of planning my exact workout.

I believe in you and your calling!! You can do it 🙂

      • Thanks !!!! And my word Believe ❤️ Has gotten me through many things .. It was straight from God and always shows up just when I need it 😃

  11. There are two things I am going to have to come to terms with…
1- Honestly, I do not like sweating!!! It has always been very uncomfortable for me. I work in a hot, industrial environment and when I am off I am 100% girly-girl.
2- I am going to have to stick to a plan for exercising and eating healthy. I will not be able to have cheat eating days weekly. Also more food prep and getting rid of bad food in the house.

    • This sounds like great awareness Ayesha! And food prep is a HUGE help in following through with healthy eating 🙂 You can do this girl!!!!

  12. Hi, Linda. I want to final be under 20lbs. And oraganzied in all areas of my life! I will do this be counting calories and exerise. And make a list and still with it!

    • Dorothy this sounds like excellent goals! I’m so glad you are here with us. What days do you plan to exercise? How often will you make a list?

I’m a list junky. I like to make a list every morning after my quiet time to plan out my day and then check it off as I go along (hour by hour). This really helps me stay focused with my goals.

  13. Linda, thank you for sharing your heart and your journey with all of us. I have felt such a special connection to you the first time I read/saw one of your posts, I don’t know maybe two years ago? Your genuineness and joy in the Lord are so apparent and brings me encouragement. Thank you for sharing I will commit, even though I don’t want to, to writing down what I eat for the next week. Thank you again and may God’s peace that surpasses all understanding by yours as you cast your anxieties on Him who loves you.

    • Christina THANK YOU my friend for such kind sweet words. You gave my heart a hug this morning!! I’m so proud of you for writing down what you are eating for the next week. What type of notebook will you use to keep track of your food?

Something that helped me in the past was actually writing down all my food at the beginning of the day…planning it out with the exception of eating out. Then all I had to do was check it off as I ate. Just a thought 🙂

  14. Hi Linda! I am a couple days late jumping on board and choosing a goal, but my daughter has been preparing for the arrival of her third child, but first baby girl…and this morning at 12:18 we welcomed God’s beautiful creation my granddaughter Grace Barbara. And here I am going back and reading all of your recent blog posts that I missed. I had chosen a goal of simply (or obviously not so simple) getting back to a morning quiet time with God. For a few years I was dedicated to spending time with Jesus every morning and the earlier I rose, the more time. And then…I moved back to my home where my daughters and my 3 grandchildren live. Within 6 months, my quiet time was 5 minutes. I love my family but I love God more…my goal is to not get caught up in what everyone else needs in the morning, but to first make sure I am getting what I need and that is my quiet time with my heavenly Father. My short term goals are to get to bed earlier and to rise earlier. Longer term goals are not only to have that time but to carry His Word throughout my day…

    • Mary my daughter’s birthday is today!!! August 23 and she is the only granddaughter. 🙂 Congratulations on that little bundle of joy!! Thank you God for the gift of life.

Morning quiet time is an excellent goal!! If I do not start my day with quiet time I am not myself. I treasure my early morning time with God. I’m so glad to hear this is your goal. Hope you have the Jesus Calling devotional my Sarah Young. My FAVORITE devotional of all times. xoxo

      • Happy birthday to your daughter! What a blessed day this has been! And yes, I do have Jesus Calling. I actually won it on your blog a while back…I think it was at least 2 years ago. A treasured devotional alongside my God Calling by A J Russell. Thx again for your encouragement always! God bless!

        • Oh that’s so funny Mary! Can you tell I REALLY REALLY love my Jesus Calling 😉 I need to get God Calling. Thank you for the birthday wishes for my Meg.

  15. Checking in & adding my preparation thoughts too 🙂 I have completed a week of attempting to reach my goal 🙂 That in itself is a victory! 🙂 When I first read this post I felt stretched to think of how much more prepared I could be -not being arrogant, but I had truly set a plan & worked on being prepared for it with things like a daily checklist of my goals, updating my My Fitness Pal profile & stocking the house with healthy food & a pre-day 1 run thru. As I pondered your question & went thru this week I did identify some areas needing tweaked/more prep. Things like setting a 1 day a week goal review & looking over the whole week to assess my progress. A set weigh in day. A set of hand weights on my porch, ready to go, when I take my walks. I also had to rethink the strength program I chose as I did it last week & could hardly walk for two days – I am not unfit, but it slammed me! I have had many chronic health issues in the past including fibromyalgia & immune breakdowns, so I know better than to push my body beyond a certain level -my “ups” have to be gradual. So I am rethinking my strength portion- will look for a gentler program with a goal of working up to the program that slammed me. I met all of my goals this week with only a time here & there of failing to follow thru. The scale showed the truth of it as I weighed in this morning to a 1.5# loss over the last 5 days -I was prepared for no loss-couldn’t help but happy dance as I saw that my body loves these changes. I feel better all around all ready. Thank you for stretching me with your preparation question <3 This challenge is the wind I needed under my wings to break out of my rut of,"I'll start tomorrow"! The shoes are really cute -are they the ones you chose? Praying for you as you prepare for the marathon.

    • Wow Liz! That’s so cool how you took the time to really take a look at where you might need more preparation because it sounds like you were absolutely prepared.

I had one of those days too where I did cross training and literally could hardly walk for 2 days! I really did not realize how much that challenged me. I love how you have seen results!!!! I’m doing a happy dance with you.

I got to pick out any shoes I wanted at the store!! I never get to buy running shoes on looks 🙁 even though these aren’t bad looking but I’d prefer different colors if I could 🙂 Thank you so much for your prayers for the half! Today when I was training it was extremely challenging and I thought why in the world am I doing this again?? lol Thanks for being here on my blog ((hugs))

  16. I work hard not to compare myself to others but it’s hard. I share space w an extremely organized teacher that has way more years of teaching than me. She is so gracious about our differences but I still get anxious that my boss (who is also my niece by the way) walks into my class and just shakes her head. I know she doesn’t, it’s just me. I’ve been teaching only 3/4 years but have been working w people in the business world for 30 yrs(man I’m old😊). When my desk is cleared I feel good about it; and if everything is where it’s supposed to be and not in a pile I win. I’m also helping my kids w their own organizing so that helps me too, modeling and all that. Posting this helps. It’s makes me think of other things and other areas that need my attention and rather than get overwhelmed I’m feeling a slight tingle of excitement. We have an amazing God who wants our success and victory over our issues. Not to allow them to be stumbling blocks that keep us from relying on him. I’m working on that too!

    • I just love you Debbie!! I love your honesty and beautiful heart. I wish I could reach through the screen and ((hug)) you 🙂

I’m excited to hear that as you were posting your comment you were getting some clarity & excitement. And when any of those compairson thoughts pop in your mind just pilotly tell them they are not allowed in to please exit per your life coach. 🙂 It’s easy to compare ourselves with others …. I do it when I’m running and see someone sprinting quickly by me. But then I have a quick come to Jesus meeting with myself and change comparison into compassion for myself and praise God for all that he has done in my life.

Thank you for being here!!! xoxo
