Redefining Your Goal

I’m really embarrassed to show you the training video clip at the end … but I think it’s important to let you see me struggling because achieving our goals is not always pretty.

Today’s coaching tip is about redefining our goals.

A few weeks ago we set our goals. My goal is to run a half marathon on Nov. 8, just two days before my book release! But in the back of my mind I had another goal that was kind of blurry. It was to run the half marathon at a certain pace … a pace that is way to fast for me. I’m a pretty SLOW runner and the goal is unrealistic. Honestly, most people walk faster than I run!

So every time I go out for a run I keep putting extra pressure on myself because I’m comparing myself to whether or not I can achieve a faster pace. It’s really silly because my goal is to complete the half marathon period. It doesn’t matter how fast I run it. Just like selling my book, it does not matter how many books are sold, the only thing that matters is that I was obedient to what God called me to do, which was to write the book.

Today I want to encourage you to take a little time and really think about your goal. Do you need to redefine it?

Or are you someone who set a goal but then got off track and said maybe I’ll start later?

What is God speaking to your heart today about your goals? Everyone who comments will be entered to WIN!

  1. Wow, Linda you really spoke to me today. I was ready just to give us, but I am redefining my goals weekly, not just looking at the complete goal. The goals I set are attainable if I put in the hard work. Thank you for the encouragement.

    • Mary I’m happy to hear you are not giving up! We can do this together! It’s easier when I know I’m not in it alone 🙂 xoxo

Thank you for being here friend.

  2. Clear goals, with steps to get there each day, seems best plan of action. Before you know it, we’ll be there!

    • Yes Tracy we will be there soon!!! I agree very clear goals with plan of action is a MUST.

Thank you for hanging out here and encouraging us. xoxo

  3. Linda, you’re killing it girl! and you are so real! Thanks for that! I think my goals are very realistic and doable, if I plan and like you said in your video, WORK HARD. I like the idea of daily goals, so while I have my daily food log that I’m checking off, I am also going to start personal a checklist for myself, adding the spiritual and physical exercising that are required for me to meet my goals. In my business, I’d not have a single client left if I didn’t live off checklists and reminders. So off I go to get my checklist ready for tomorrow

    • Thanks Kerry for your encouragement! You gave my heart a big ((hug))!! Girl I am all about a To Do List! Every morning I plan out my day hour by hour. I love the feeling of checking it off my list.

Love that you are here with us and tackling your goals as well. xoxo

  4. I need to re-focus, also. I’ve been exercising, but do not have my eating under control. What works for me is physically writing down EVERYTHING that I eat.

    • Susan I’m glad to know I’m not alone in needing to refocus! It’s hard to keep that balance of exercising and eating right because when I exercise I tend to give myself more freedom in my eating…to eat more junk food…lol! If I don’t stay focused I find myself eating out of emotion.

Let me know how its going with journaling your food. Do you have a special notebook you use?

      • I just use a 3 x 5 notebook. I am sure there are fancy apps out there to use. But carrying around the notebook — and *consciously thinking* about everything I put in my mouth — makes it more real.

  5. Linda, thank you. Sincerely and from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Your authenticity and genuine care is beautiful. God bless you as you train and keep going and keep remembering you are worthy because of the blood of Jesus!

    • Aww Jennifer you just gave me a big virtual (((hug))). Thank you for encouraging me here. I pray that everyone will push through and achieve their goals with me. It’s comforting to know we are not alone in this. Thank you for being here!!! xoxo

  6. Linda your willingness to be real with us inspires, encourages and motivates me and so many others! Thank you for being obedient, vunerable and loving on us! I am amazed at how well I am doing on my goal this time, I have started and stopped my writing journey many times over the past couple years but with your coaching and leading by example, my accountability partner and of course Jesus keeping me focused and on track I am doing so well! I have met my weekly goals and will have Blog Post number 4 posted by days end. Thanks you! Love, hugs and continued prayers friend!

    • Thank you sweet Melissa for supporting me and encouraging me to keep it real here 🙂 It means so much to hear that you and others appreciate seeing the real deal …. no matter what!

I’m ecstatic to hear how well you are doing on blogging!!!!! Yay Melissa!!! Yay God!!!! Keep up the good work. Can you imagine how great you will feel by November 8 with all that you’ve accomplished? xoxox

  7. I am struggling a little with my goal. To simplify my goal to make it more achievable, I want to look at my food intake each day. I am going to work to make my breakfast and lunch daily. And work to minimize getting hungry with no healthy food options. But also to not penalize myself if I do. Remember…everyday is a new day.

    • Amen Ayesha! Every day is a new day. Baby steps my friend. One day at a time …. one hour at a time … one bite at a time.

Congratulations on winning the devotional!! Please email me at linda@lindakuhar.com your mailing address. I love that you are here on the blog being real. I believe in you!!! We can do this together. xoxo

  8. I realized that my ‘goal’ (organizing my desk at school to be functional) is one of those long term things…I will always be organizing it cuz there’s always a better way. I mean just check out Pinterest! So part of my deal is to be content w what works for me. If everything has a place but I’m running around my classroom to get it it ain’t gonna work! And so I’ve pulled myself together , put my books in an order that works for me and am now no longer having to ask my students where I put my plans. Whew!!! Anyway…I still need to watch that I don’t compare myself to the others… And I need to be on top of putting stuff back where it belongs right away.
I think the next thing I want to get a grip on is my lack of exercise. When I was with team in training there were goals set up for us but now that I’m not and I don’t have that support system it’s harder. So I think I want to pick an event and find a friend to train with.
I love that you’re doing team in training! Made some wonderful friends walking.

    • Hi Debbie! I love that you have clarity around your desk organization!! Woohoo!!!! When we have awareness it makes life so much easier. So you go girl! Great job!!

I’m actually not training with Team In Training this time. I’m doing it on my own, however the last 2 events I did were both with TNT. I learned so much from them and because of that I’m using those skills to train for this event. Because I don’t have a team I have to stay on top of accountability. That’s why I’m sharing my journey here with you.

Let me know what you decide about your fitness goals. This is exciting!!! You can do it!

  9. Linda watching this again and again…I’m so proud of you and your strength. I gave up. Life got crazy and I gave up again. But I am going to try your suggestion of thinking about the is week and goals for each day. I get overwhelmed and defeated. This video made me cry. Happy tears for you and hopeful tears for me.

    • Cate you can begin again as Joyce Meyer says. I understand about being overwhelmed and defeated. I think I need to share that with you guys this week in a video. I struggle in that area!!

You made my heart smile so big that you cried happy tears for me and HOPEFUL tears for you!! You can do this my friend. I promise. Take it one day at a time. Do not look ahead or behind. Just Live Today.

  10. Brushing myself off, getting back up, re-focusing on God and try, try again. Wheh. Thank you Jesus that your mercies are new every morning.

    • Amen! Achieving our goals really takes a lot of getting back up when we fall down. When we can accept that falling is part of it we are much more likely to achieve our goals.

Thank you for being here! You’ve got this!!

  11. Thanks for being transparent we were just talking about that last night at bible study … it helps when we realize we aren’t the only ones struggling and that we can refocus and keep pressing on … It has been a hard week for me I have been feeling like I was being hit from all angles and was growing weary and worn I know He has a plan for me and what I feel He is calling me to do but I tend to be impatient and want to jump ahead of Him but He has been speaking to my heart to be still so I am going to refocus and keep pressing on and believe that if becoming a Christian life coach is a part of His plan then I know He will make. Away I just have to do my part and follow His lead ….
