What To Do When You Don’t Achieve Your Goal

I’m disappointed to tell you that I will not be running the half marathon in two weeks. 🙁 I’ve been sick for the last few weeks and my body is telling me it is not a wise idea to do the event.

Even though I’ve questioned God why this happened, I do believe there are so many lessons to learn. I am so grateful for all that I’ve accomplished up to this point in my goal to run 13.1 miles!

Yesterday I decided after talking with my book coach Lee McCracken (Author of A Prayer and a Pink Pedicure) that on Nov. 8, I will celebrate the day with my family by going to the mountains and enjoying the outdoors. I will remain thankful and not focus on what I cannot do but on what I CAN DO!

I want to hear where you are with your goals. Are struggling in any area or are you right on track? Do you need redirect yourself or adjust your goal? Leave me a comment below.

  1. Hi Linda im struggling with food and motivation and losing weight. Do you recommend and Christian based books to help with this?

    • The book I highly recommend (even though it is not about food) is Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer. Basically it starts with our thoughts and our thoughts become our actions. Also check out her video message this week on Friday10/23 Taking Better Care of Yourself on Enjoying Everyday Life. I respect her directness and her teachings so much!!!

It was a pleasant surprise to see your name here 🙂 Love you Jamie! It seems like yesterday we were in school together. Where has the time gone?

  2. Hi Linda, I am so very sorry to hear that you will not be able to make it to run in the half marathon. Having watched your video, I sensed, and deeply felt your deflation to the pride and determination you have. I’m not responding for a chance to win the book but moreso, to connect and take back something positive from your message. I CONTINUE to struggle with ME., my goals, desires and somewhat life itself. Each day, I try to start fresh and tell myself that I am going to work towards reaching simple things (because the big stuff seems too BIG, and I end each in a deflated feeling of having not made a dent in my struggle(s). With that said, I will look back to your video today, in hopes that it will remind me of the importance of listening to the true message behind it, and that is to get back up! Thanks again, Linda. Enjoy your time with your family, on your hike together.

    • Sheryl thank you sharing your heart here 🙂 I’ve struggled with ME as well. I understand where you are coming from completely. Do you have an accountability partner or have you worked with a coach? Sometimes when we have just a little extra support, encouragement & accountability that is enough to get us over our hurdles to quickly begin moving forward.

Thank you for being here! xoxo

      • Thanks so much for your reply Linda. A shortened, condensed answer to your question, is that I am traveling this road alone. Haven’t found anyone to trust, let alone made a connection with a ‘coach’. They are hard to find where I am. Thanks again for perhaps knocking down a small hurdle today. Sincerely, still searching on a very long road. I would love to will try to stay connected to your page.

        • I hope you’ll stay connected. Most coaches (myself included) see clients virtually. I see 95% of my clients over Skype or phone calls.

          ((hugs))

  3. I am glad you are feeling better. I am also glad that you listened to your body and made the right decision for your health. There will be other marathons, if you chose to participate again. You are awesome, Linda!!!
I am still working on my weight loss goal. Slowly, but, surely. Some weeks are better than others, but, I Am Worthy. 🙂

    • Thank you Melissa for encouraging me 🙂 I’m happy to hear that you are still working on your weight loss goal. Keep up the good work. Remember progress not perfection. ((hugs))

  4. I am so sorry that I have been gone. I was working a very busy schedule and two weeks ago had outpatient surgery. I am really struggling with my goal. My life has shifted so much and I am losing my focus. I am very sorry to hear that you will not be able to run in two weeks, but I am glad you are still celebrating with your family on that day. I will read listen to the 10/23 teaching from Joyce Meyer and look into the book. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Ayesha

  5. Hi Linda, I am thankful for your message in this post – another example of you being “real” and helping me to see that ups and downs are a normal part of life for normal people. You are an inspiration!
I love your comment “progress not perfection” – I feel so much better about life and myself if I am pursuing health vs. giving in to the idea that I will continue to have set backs and should just give up. Getting up and back in pursuit is forward progress!
I just purchased the Kindle version of your book and will get started reading it today!
    You are in my prayers!
