What’s your red flag telling you?

redflag3

Do you ever find yourself doing one thing but deep down inside you really can’t stand what you’re doing?

For example, eating junk food when you know you need to lose weight to get into your summer clothes or giving advice when you know you really just need to keep quiet and listen.

When I find myself in these wishy-washy emotions that’s a big red flag for me!

My life has the potential to spiral quickly into unhealthy places, physically, mentally and spiritually.

And I don’t know about you, but for me when my life is out of balance watch out world because I become a hot mess!

So what can we do to keep our sanity so that we don’t become a hot mess?

How can we consistently live the life we really want to live? You know the life that is full of the fruits of the spirit…love, peace, joy, patience, kindness, gentleness and self-control.

For starters, get rid of the idea that we will ever do anything perfectly or exactly as planned because that’s just not reality. No matter what we plan, every single day will guarantee us a curve ball to throw us off-balance.

Secondly it’s quite simple, Just Show Up.

That’s it.

All we really have to do is simply seek God each and every day and He will do the rest. He will provide all the sanity and balance we could ever wish for.

Matthew 7:7-8 Jesus says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”

It takes one simple action, one simple effort on our part.

Just Show Up.

When we do our part and pursue the Lord, He will do the rest. Life as you know it will transform into a steady consistent balance without all the chaos.

  1. Your post about ‘ What’s your red flag?’ has been really timely. The challenge to ‘just show up’ has reinforced that I am at least doing the right thing at a difficult time in my life. It’s about all I can do.. my ‘show up time’ is early morning, putting reading the Bible and setting my day before the Lord first, before my day develops into unpredictability. A few years ago, when life was difficult for different reasons, I came up with a phrase to begin my day with..
” This is my day, set before you Lord, that I might walk in it, according to your power at work in me”…
It is at times of weakness, when I most need the power of God’s love through His Spirit at work in me.. This gives me hope and courage too, in facing days which could otherwise pull me to a hopeless place.
My ‘red flag’, is that I start to withdraw from people and edge toward giving up on things.
I see it , but choose to respond differently.
Thanks for your words Linda.. May God strengthen you in all you do, say and write.

  2. My weight issues continue to be a constant source of worry for me. I know that I need to “Just Show Up”. Lately, I have been more concerned about what my family and friends think about my weight, than how God must feel about me not taking care of the body He gave me. I have said that before, but, after reading your words, something is different. Today is a new day and I will try harder. Thank you, Linda. 🙂 You are so special.

  3. Linda,

When I hear the words “show up” I think about being present.

    This is difficult.

There are times when I’m worried about past mistakes or worried about the future.

But being present with God everyday is the sweet spot.

    Thanks for the good reminder.
